About the project
The Unlocking EU Funds for SMEs project responds to the need to support small and medium-sized enterprises in accessing European funding opportunities. Despite the availability of various programmes, grants and financial instruments targeting SMEs, many companies face difficulties in identifying suitable opportunities, preparing competitive applications and properly managing funded projects. Smaller SMEs often have limited human resources and may not be able to allocate dedicated staff to identifying funding opportunities or developing and managing projects. The project addresses these challenges through the creation of an EU Helpdesk within the partner organisations in Malta and Portugal. The service will provide three main areas of support: information on local and European funding opportunities; assistance with project development, application preparation, implementation and reporting; and capacity-building opportunities to strengthen the skills of businesses. The Helpdesk will enable SMEs to access specialised support without the need to establish dedicated internal structures to follow these opportunities, while also increasing their knowledge of European funding and strengthening their capacity to participate in projects. The project also includes information sessions, training activities and launch events aimed at promoting the service and engaging potential users. Cooperation between the partners will help identify needs and knowledge gaps through targeted surveys and jointly develop a Procedures Manual for the EU Helpdesk. Cooperation between CCIF and MEA will also be established to facilitate migrant entrepreneurs’ access to the service. After the end of the project, the Helpdesk will continue to operate as a permanent service. The project also contributes to the development of skills among VET learners and entrepreneurs, promoting future opportunities for employment, collaboration and sustainable development, including in rural areas.
