About the project

The international youth exchange “STAGE 4 EYG III (2026)” - European Youth Goals - was developed within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme and brought together young participants from different European countries. Taking place in São Pedro do Estoril (Portugal) from 12th to 22th May 2026, the exchange provided a meaningful and transformative experience focused on personal development, intercultural dialogue, and social learning.

The project followed an educational methodology based on theatrical expression and used forum theatre techniques as one of its main tools for learning and participation. As an interactive and participatory theatrical approach, forum theatre enabled participants to explore, reflect on, and debate relevant social issues, while simultaneously promoting creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and active citizenship.

Through this innovative methodology, young people actively engaged in debates and activities related to the European Youth Goals (EYG). In this edition, special attention was given to Goal #9 – Space and Participation for All, encouraging participants to reflect on inclusion, democratic participation, and the importance of creating accessible opportunities for all young people.

Diary - Day 1

The youth exchange “Stage 4 EYG III (2026)” officially began in São Pedro do Estoril, Portugal, gathering participants from France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The first day focused primarily on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants could begin building trust, cooperation, and interpersonal connections. Through a variety of dynamic team-building exercises and outdoor activities, participants had the opportunity to get to know one another, strengthen group cohesion, and explore the local surroundings. These activities laid the foundation for effective collaboration throughout the project. In the afternoon, participants were introduced to the thematic framework of the exchange by engaging in a creative activity centered around designing their own European Youth Goals country. This exercise encouraged reflection on European values, active citizenship, and collective vision-building. The day concluded with an intercultural evening, providing participants with the opportunity to celebrate and share their national traditions, customs, and cultures, further enriching intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

Diary - Day 2

The second day marked participants’ first immersion into the world of theatre. Through a series of creative and interactive workshops, they were introduced to the basic principles of stage performance, including physical presence, storytelling, and sculpturing techniques. Participants explored how body language, movement, and facial expressions can serve as powerful tools for communication, emotional expression, and narrative creation. These sessions encouraged self-confidence, creativity, and openness while offering participants practical tools for theatrical expression. By engaging in these foundational theatre activities, participants not only developed artistic competencies but also strengthened communication skills and group interaction. The day served as a valuable introduction to forum theatre methodologies that would continue to shape the project experience.

Diary - Day 3

On the third day, participants deepened their engagement with both social reflection and theatrical practice. The morning was dedicated to the World Café methodology, an interactive discussion process that allowed participants to exchange perspectives, ideas, and experiences in a collaborative setting. This structured dialogue encouraged critical thinking, active participation, and intercultural exchange, while allowing participants to reflect on project themes and societal issues from diverse viewpoints. In the afternoon, participants explored image theatre techniques, focusing on how to visually represent climax situations and social dynamics through physical expression and body language. This method fostered creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of non-verbal communication. Overall, the day combined intellectual dialogue with artistic practice, strengthening both personal reflection and theatrical competence.

07

Diary - Day 4

Day four focused on self-awareness, empathy-building, and social reflection. Through activities addressing privilege, personal experiences, and social perspectives, participants were encouraged to critically examine inequalities and understand the diverse realities of others. Exercises such as mirroring and core values circles created safe spaces for reflection, dialogue, and mutual learning. These methods promoted empathy, emotional intelligence, and stronger interpersonal relationships within the group. The day’s activities contributed significantly to participants’ personal growth, helping them develop a deeper awareness of social inclusion, solidarity, and the shared values that connect young people across Europe.

08

Diary - Day 5

The fifth day combined theatrical development with reflection and cultural exploration. Participants took part in improvisation theatre workshops designed to enhance spontaneity, creativity, adaptability, and stage confidence. These activities challenged participants to think quickly, collaborate effectively, and express themselves freely in unpredictable scenarios, reinforcing both artistic and personal development. A midterm evaluation session also took place, allowing participants to assess their experiences so far, share constructive feedback, and reflect on their individual learning journeys. In addition, participants explored São Pedro do Estoril and its surrounding areas, experiencing local culture while strengthening group bonds in an informal setting. This balance of creativity, evaluation, and exploration contributed to a holistic educational experience.

09

Diary - Day 6

Day six continued the theatrical journey with high-energy activities such as “Chicken Battle Revelation” and “Amsterdam Clown,” designed to encourage spontaneity, humor, confidence, and creative risk-taking. These playful yet educational exercises pushed participants beyond their comfort zones, fostering imagination, self-expression, and stronger group dynamics. The afternoon focused on further theatre improvisation, allowing participants to refine their performance techniques, teamwork, and ability to respond creatively in real time. This day was marked by laughter, experimentation, and continued personal growth, reinforcing theatre as a transformative educational tool for youth empowerment, communication, and social development.

10

Diary - Day 7

OThe seventh day of the youth exchange combined theatrical reflection with cultural learning experiences. During the morning sessions, participants engaged in activities such as “Inner Monologue” and “Hot Seat,” both designed to deepen emotional awareness, character exploration, and personal expression through theatre. The “Inner Monologue” exercise encouraged participants to explore internal thoughts and emotions, helping them better understand how feelings and personal experiences can be represented on stage. Through the “Hot Seat” activity, participants practiced improvisation, active listening, and spontaneous interaction while responding to questions in character. These methods contributed to the development of empathy, communication skills, creativity, and self-confidence. In the afternoon, participants took part in a cultural visit to Cascais, one of Portugal’s most well-known coastal towns. The visit included a walking tour through the historic center and a guided exploration of the Sea Museum, where participants learned more about the maritime history and cultural heritage of the region. This combination of artistic practice and cultural discovery provided participants with a broader educational experience, strengthening both intercultural understanding and group cohesion while creating meaningful shared memories.

11

Diary - Day 8

The eighth day of the youth exchange marked one of the most important and meaningful moments of the entire project. Participants dedicated the day to intensive preparation sessions aimed at finalizing and presenting their theatre performances, which represented the culmination of the learning process developed throughout the exchange. Working in small international groups, participants collaborated on the creation and development of their plays by organizing scenes, refining scripts, rehearsing performances, and integrating the various theatre methodologies explored during the previous days. These sessions encouraged creativity, teamwork, communication, and collective problem-solving while allowing participants to actively contribute their own ideas and artistic perspectives. Throughout the preparation process, participants applied a wide range of theatrical techniques, including storytelling, improvisation, image theatre, emotional expression, movement, and body language. The activities provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen self-confidence, stage presence, adaptability, and collaboration skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. In the evening, the group presented the final theatre show, sharing their performances with the other participants and facilitators. The performances addressed meaningful social themes connected to the project’s objectives and reflected the participants’ personal reflections, creativity, and intercultural experiences developed during the exchange. The final show created an emotional and celebratory atmosphere, highlighting the strong bonds formed within the group and demonstrating the transformative potential of theatre as a tool for expression, participation, and social awareness. The evening represented not only the conclusion of the artistic process but also a celebration of learning, diversity, cooperation, and youth empowerment.

12

Diary - Day 9

The final day of the youth exchange was dedicated to evaluation, reflection, and the celebration of the learning journey experienced throughout the project. Participants took part in both online and offline evaluation activities aimed at assessing the overall impact of the exchange and reflecting on their personal and group development. The evaluation process included digital feedback forms as well as interactive group activities and games designed to encourage open discussion and collective reflection. Through these methods, participants were able to identify the challenges they had overcome, the competences they had developed, and the most meaningful experiences they shared during the project. Special attention was given to the personal growth achieved through theatre methodologies, intercultural dialogue, teamwork, and non-formal education. Participants reflected on the skills acquired throughout the exchange, including communication, creativity, self-confidence, empathy, collaboration, and adaptability. The final sessions also created space for emotional sharing, informal conversations, and moments of appreciation among participants and facilitators. These exchanges strengthened the sense of connection built during the project and highlighted the positive impact of living and learning together in an international environment. The closing of the project was marked by gratitude, reflection, and celebration, bringing to an end an inspiring experience centered on youth participation, intercultural learning, artistic expression, and personal development.
