Diary - day 1
We welcomed participants from Italy, France and Spain to the beautiful coastal village of Vila Nova de Milfontes, where our project took place. The day began with an introduction to the Check-In Team and a brief explanation of the objectives of this meeting. Since nobody knew each other, we started with two name games and a speed dating activity, featuring different questions that helped everyone get to know each other better. To promote team spirit, we carried out the “Mission Impossible” activity, in which participants had to work together to complete a series of tasks within a short period of time. They successfully completed the challenge, demonstrating an excellent spirit of mutual support and teamwork. Next, we created personalised name badges for everyone! Each participant drew a set of lines corresponding to the number of letters in their name and then exchanged their badge with someone else to identify common letters between their respective names. Afterwards, we held a session dedicated to sharing contributions, expectations and fears. Following a coffee break, the Check-In Team organised a guided tour with two main stations: 1) The Youth Exchange Programme and 2) Erasmus+ and Youthpass. Participants were then introduced to the central theme of the project: the European Youth Goals. To explore this topic further, they took part in an interactive quiz, answering questions about the 11 European Youth Goals, divided into three teams. We ended the day with a reflection session, during which participants were divided into four groups to discuss what they had learned and how they had felt throughout the day.
Diary - day 2
We started the day with a fun energiser, in which we stood in a circle and one person performed different movements that the other participants had to imitate. The challenge was for someone standing in the middle of the circle to identify who the leader was who initiated the movements. Next, we moved on to the “Walk and Talk” activity, in which participants paired up to discuss different questions related to the European Youth Goals and their perceptions of them. Every five minutes, they switched partners. The good weather allowed us to explore the charming village while walking alongside the ocean, making this experience even more memorable. The next activity was “EYG Rise Country”, during which participants were divided into five teams to create their own countries, including traditional food, language, music and much more, all with unique characteristics. Afterwards, we let our creativity flow with an activity in which we created our own passports! Participants passed a sheet of paper to the person on their right and, each time they received a new sheet, they drew a different part of the body of the person represented on the paper. To deepen their knowledge of the 11 European Youth Goals, each participant picked five random words (such as “window”, “magic”, among others) and created a theatrical story connecting those words to one of the Youth Goals. We ended the day with a reflection session, during which participants drew something that represented how they had felt throughout the second day.
Diary - day 3
As usual, the day started with an energiser to get participants ready for the upcoming activities. This time, it was an original version of the classic “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game, in which participants evolved from an egg into a chicken, then into a dinosaur and, finally, into a “boss”. The French team was responsible for facilitating the day's activities. The first activity consisted of a theatrical performance involving three participants, who presented a situation related to the European Youth Goals, with a particular focus on the goal “Inclusive Societies”. The initial scenario portrayed an unsafe environment which, through clapping and replacing the “actors”, was gradually transformed by the participants into a safe and inclusive space. Afterwards, participants took part in an activity in which they had to arrange themselves in a line according to specific criteria, such as their month of birth. Then, one of the participants asked a series of questions to discover the reasons behind that particular arrangement. The morning workshop encouraged discussions on several relevant topics. The conversations focused on the gender pay gap, a topic that generated considerable interest, as well as workplace responsibilities, social anxiety and the economy. The discussions provided diverse perspectives and valuable insights into each of these issues. After lunch, the group took part in the game “Activity”, in which participants had to guess topics related to the European Youth Goals through verbal descriptions or by acting them out using gestures and movements. Words such as “depression”, “conversation” and “community”, among others, led to moments of great cooperation and team spirit. Overall, the third day was marked by enriching discussions, creative activities and collaborative learning, leaving participants excited about the activities planned for the following day.
Diary - day 4
Friday started with a dynamic and engaging energiser, facilitated by the Spanish team. Two teams faced off in a flag-capturing challenge, adding a sporty and competitive touch to the beginning of the day. The first workshop was dedicated to the European Youth Goals. Participants answered a series of true or false statements related to these goals. They had to take a step forward if they agreed with the statement or a step backwards if they disagreed. One of the questions asked was: “In 2024, 10 million students took part in Erasmus+ projects”. This activity sparked curiosity and provided valuable insights into the European Youth Goals, allowing participants to deepen their knowledge in an active and dynamic way. After the coffee break, there was time for another short energiser entitled “I Send a Letter”. It was a fun and dynamic musical chairs game in which one person stood in the middle and made certain statements, while the other participants quickly looked for an empty chair to sit on. The second workshop was based on the game “Pasapalabra”, a word-definition challenge. Participants were divided into two groups, and one person read out the definitions while the others tried to guess the correct word. If they did not know the answer, they could say “pass word” and move on to the next clue. This activity promoted teamwork and tested participants’ knowledge of the European Youth Goals and the topics they had learned about so far. The afternoon workshop gave participants the opportunity to take part in a role-play activity focused on the European Youth Goals. The group was divided into four smaller teams, each tasked with developing policy proposals to achieve these goals. This activity encouraged participants to think critically, analyse potential challenges and work together to create practical solutions. The day ended with a reflection on the activities carried out, reinforcing the importance of teamwork, critical thinking and collaboration in achieving the European Youth Goals. It was an enriching experience for everyone involved.
Diary - days 5 and 6
Throughout the weekend, we continued to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the European Youth Goals. Saturday's activities were facilitated by the Italian team, who prepared and led a series of dynamic and engaging workshops. The main theme of the day was sustainability, an issue that is particularly important to everyone. Through fun and interactive activities, participants explored this key goal in greater depth, developing a stronger awareness of its importance in the global context. On Sunday, sustainability remained the central theme. However, participants also had the opportunity to express their individual ideas and creativity. Using magazines, colouring materials and various other resources, they created artworks representing their vision of the 7th European Youth Goal: Quality Employment for All. This creative activity provided a meaningful way to reflect on this essential goal and visually communicate each participant's ideas. In addition to the workshops and creative activities, there was also time to explore and share cultural traditions. Participants presented aspects of their home countries in a relaxed and fun way through activities such as a Kahoot quiz, sharing small snacks and taking part in games. This initiative allowed everyone to learn more about the diverse cultures of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain, promoting greater understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity within the group. The weekend was an excellent combination of learning, creativity and cultural exchange, leaving everyone feeling more inspired and united.
Diary - day 7
The day began with an energising activity to wake everyone up and create a positive atmosphere. Afterwards, everyone took out their passports, which had been created on the first day of the youth exchange, and placed them on the table. This gave participants the opportunity to write messages to one another, leaving words of encouragement, gratitude and friendship as a reminder of this unique experience. During the next part of the day, the project's personalised T-shirts were distributed. Each participant had the opportunity to make them even more special by writing meaningful messages and adding drawings, creating a unique keepsake from the exchange. Creativity and emotion marked this moment, reflecting the bonds built throughout the various days. To conclude this journey of learning and sharing, the Youthpass certificates were handed out, recognising the personal growth and skills acquired throughout the exchange. This moment was filled with smiles, words of gratitude and a sense of achievement. Finally, we gathered for a group photo, capturing the unity and bonds created throughout this enriching experience, which will certainly remain in everyone's memories.
