About the project
The MAMYS project supports young Roma girls in building freer, safer and more informed life paths, strengthening their ability to make decisions about education, marriage and motherhood. The project addresses challenges such as early school leaving, poverty, social exclusion and the risks associated with marriage at a young age, which can limit access to education, healthcare, autonomy and, later on, the labour market. The project raises awareness of the impacts of early and forced marriage and develops skills that strengthen girls’ confidence, leadership, self-efficacy and decision-making abilities. It also includes digital skills and coding activities, creating opportunities to develop autonomy and new competences. In parallel, mothers, young people and Roma communities are involved in dialogue on education, health, marriage and personal choices. MAMYS also empowers local educators through Train the Trainer activities, promoting gender-sensitive educational approaches that are appropriate to the cultural contexts of Roma communities. As a resource for professionals and organisations, the project develops a toolkit with good practices and guidance for social and educational work. Through this approach, MAMYS aims to contribute to girls’ continued participation in education and to the development of skills that enable them to define their own pathways and life plans.
