The importance of digital well-being and emotional balance
International Erasmus+ Youth Workers Mobility project “Balanced minds for digital well-being” was implemented November 1-9 in Kaunas Lithuania. Participants from eight European countries – Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Lithuania came together to develop youth workers’ competencies in the field of digital well-being. The project aimed to promote psychological health and emotional resilience in a technology-driven world.
Digital well-being and emotional balance The training sessions focused on achieving balance in the digital age. Participants explored the impact of modern technologies on daily life and the challenges they pose to emotional health. Through group work, they developed ideas and solutions while acquiring skills to maintain a healthy relationship with technologies. Additionally, participants examined strategies to reduce digital stress and ensure quality screen-free rest. They learned to recognize signs of excessive digital device use and incorporate healthy habits into daily routines. Such training sessions not only strengthened participants’ emotional balance but also raised awareness of how technology affects their well-being.
Key topics and activities Participants delved into various aspects of emotional well-being during the project. The wide range of topics included the application of positive psychology, the development of empathy, stress management techniques, and practices such as meditation and mindfulness. Key themes included: Positive Psychology: Building optimism and emotional resilience. Digital Well-Being: Training on avoiding burnout and maintaining healthy technology use. Psychological Health: Self-improvement, stress reduction techniques, and recognizin burnout symptoms. Mindfulness Practices: Training to relax and focus on the present moment. Empathy Development: Enhancing the ability to recognize others’ emotions and offer support. Participants engaged in various meditation practices, including seated and walking meditations, as well as Vipassana—a method aimed at fostering deeper self-awareness and restoring emotional balance.
Individual consultations and psychological support For the youth workers; in mobility project we have also offered personal support opportunities. Participants received individual consultations with a professional psychologist to recognize signs of burnout and discuss personal challenges. These consultations provided valuable insights into identifying burnout symptoms and integrating emotional well-being practices into their work with youth.
Long-term benefits for youth workers and their communities This project equipped participants with theoretical and practical knowledge to maintain psychological balance and manage stress caused by the use of digital devices. The skills acquired will enable youth workers not only to better manage their time and energy resources but also to help young people develop healthier relationships with themselves in a technology-saturated world. We hope that the knowledge gained during the project will contribute to healthier and more harmonious lives for today’s youth.
